“I am passionate about riding because there is no other feeling in the world like riding a bike. Riding is freeing and I really don’t know where or who I’d be with out my bike!”

Love Biking: I love biking for the sense of freedom, accomplishment, and confidence that it gives. I didn’t start biking until October of 2009… just months later I spent my summer biking over 4,300 miles across the country. I’m addicted for life.
Here I am biking into Twin Lakes, Colorado on the way to Independence Pass, which tops out at over 12,000 feet in elevation. It’s one of the most beautiful places in America.

My name is Julie Hunter. I’m a 23-year-old student from Richmond, Virginia. I’m an avid casual and competitive cyclist on and off the road. Track, road, mountain, cyclocross… if it has two wheels, I’m on it! Riding is not only great physical exercise, but it is a great stress reliever and social activity as well. I strive to build the female cycling community of Richmond by hosting WOW (Women Only Wednesday) rides every week that encourage riders of all experience levels to get out and ride and have fun at the same time in an unintimidating setting!
Cycling has given me a sense of self and has definitely made me a stronger and more independent woman. It has allowed me to set goals for myself and reach them. This past Fall, I competed in my very first mountain and cyclocross races (photo attached). I won my first 4 races among experienced racers and received upgrades in both disciplines. The sense of accomplishment that I felt was far more than anything I had ever felt before. I won’t lie, it was scary as hell and at times I wanted to quit, but the encouragement and genuine friendliness of the other female riders was truly inspiring. I hope to encourage more women to join the sport of cycling…. or just ride their cruisers through the city!
Bikes for life!
