Saw this weird little hairy unit hitchhiking on my wheel after a ride in Ourimbah State Forest. Looked cute as hell all fraggle like and furry, but I hear the hairs break off and can get into your skin like fiberglass causing all sorts of problems.
It’s a Rohloff Speed Hub, German made sweetness. It’s not just a hub, it also has an internal gearbox housed in an oil bath. It has 14 gears, but it’s the equivalent to having 27 gears on your bike, you can shift gears at any position without any cluncking or sticking, even while riding hard up a hill. You can also skip a bunch of gears without having any ill effects on the gearing.
It looks like your running a single speed as all the gears are tucked away inside. It has a grip shifter that is super slick. It’s without a doubt the smoothest and easiest gear system I have ever used, there really is nothing like it. I am indeed a very luck girl!!!
Sounds like a thing of beauty! Maybe I’ll be a lucky girl one day and get to try one out.
