I tend to bag out Australia’s backward approach in regards to cycling as a transport method. It frustrates me at times and angers me. However I do feel that I should acknowledge the Lord Mayor Clover Moore. The Council has recognized that for Inner Sydney’s health and environmental sustainability, walking and cycling needs to be an easy option for all kinds of trips across the City, particularly to and from work. At the moment you would cringe if you saw what our ‘attempts’ of bicycle paths are. The Council has developed a strategy to improve this with separated bicycle roads as just one of the changes to look forward to. The deadline is 2030 to have this implemented. You may expect to see improvements earlier then this though. Take a look at The City of Sydney Cycle Strategy and Action Plan 2007-2017.
“After more than a year discussing and listening to our diverse community, consensus on the way forward for making Sydney a greener, more global and connected City has emerged” said Lord Mayor Clover Moore
There is a moral to this story. You get what you vote for. This is a good example of your voting power and electing individuals as your local Ministers for Parliament. In my opinion sometimes the bigger Parties have other interests that sway their decisions and this can therefore neglect the long term well being of a community.
