in /home/candycranks/candycranks.com/wp-includes/theme.php on line 467 NYC: Tribeca bike racks
They’re pretty good as a way of using little used spaces. I just hope they made the perforations small enough that dropped keys won’t fall through.
Going on the bench heights, I’d say that the intention is to sit facing outward rather than ‘sitting to admire your bike’
Any effort to accommodate bikes in the city is better than no effort at all.
…Okay then: Let me turn my back on my bike for a moment and see how that works; turn my back on the lovely fixed-gear workhorse that got me here, and allow others to admire my windswept beard and tired bike, while I continue to suck stale subway air… reminding me that beneath the ground exists an extensive network of tunnels used to transport passengers, safely and effectively.
Go on the bench heights and overall structure all you like, they’re still embarassing and totally lame. The price? I don’t even want to know, in all honesty.
How exactly is this accomodating bikes in the city, though??
I mean where would the riders of this city be without these marvelous bits of furniture designed for them?
What do you normally use to chain your bike too, in the city, Rodan?
I use what’s always been there… The humble street-sign post. Plenty of accomodating going on wit’ that. I certainly don’t need to be embarassed by my visiting such a futuristic shuttle- lounge of sorts.
As I said, this is an offering being dangled before the eyes of the gullible constituency that voted-in these lame-ass individuals — who actually think this will work with the greater electorate, and get them votes. Wake up!
Tribeca – you should remember – was once a real and genuine place in Manhattan, where warehouses and potholes had a kind of love affair. Strangely now, it’s become some sort of hip and happenin’ neighbourhood worthy of being included in the latest line of some rappin’ song lyric – or the latest place to visit to see a star which originated in Hollywood.
If this is what’s cool and what accomodates bikes in the city than you can have it all you want …Which means you’ll probably want the latest McDonald’s accessory with your latest McValue meal…it’s a lovely adjustible cup-holder which you can affix to the handlebars of your state-sponsored ‘fixie’.
Good luck with all that…
I maintain that Sydney is still not so bad, and in places like Waterloo you can still view the old, inner-city neighbourhood.
Damn, I’m glad that things are so great in Sydney and Waterloo and so on, and thanks for your trip down memory lane about Tribeca, but NYC is still the wild west for biking in many ways. The point is that NYC has been becoming more bike-friendly in recent years, and that is a good thing. We’ve had a long time of nothing from the city in terms of bike developments, so an experimental offering like this, although imperfect in your eyes, is a step in a better direction. I doubt that any representative’s vote is hinging on these bike racks. And if you’ve spent any time biking in NYC, you’d know that a little blowdry from the subway is the least of your problems.
Things aren’t “great” in Sydney, but at least they’re not as embarassing as NYC is turning out to be, lately.
Waterloo is still alive, whilst Tribeca has been killed long ago.
NYC has always been the Wild West – at least it was when I lived in America in the early-nineties.
Yes, bike-friendly is a “good thing” …it’s just that bicyclists should know that bike-friendly shouldn’t include such lame, bike-furniture developments.
Experimental is right, and yes it is imperfect in my eyes. In fact, it is “lame and rank”.
You posed the question: What do ya’ think? – you asked. I told you what I thought. Furthermore, I suggested that a vote should be “hinging” on these racks and other things with respect to bicyclists. Seems you have forgotten how your system of government works, Marie. Get enough people voting one way and soon you start getting what you want.
…Ummm, the way errr, it’s ummm, happening in Amsterdam, Marie.
Did you know – for instance – that in any altercation between a cyclist and a motorist in Amsterdam, that the motorist is already and always looked-on as the culprit by those investigating and dealing with the incident?
You want to promote good things for bicyclists in your city – you should research how other cities in the world are doing things well and good.
I would have thought you were doing that already, but alas you are still stuck in some form of retardation, and as such unable to think for yourself.
Good luck with all that, and enjoy your “blowdrys”.
Dan.

Madam Marie,
Things aren’t “great” in Sydney, but at least they’re not as embarassing as NYC is turning out to be, lately.
Waterloo is still alive, whilst Tribeca has been killed long ago.
NYC has always been the Wild West – at least it was when I lived in America in the early-nineties.
