So summer is nearing and the days are getting longer..which means more time to play with my bikes! My lovely ex-housemate left an old bike for me to tinker with and i have made it my summer project. The big plan : strip and re-build my first bike
I have never built a bike before and the extent of my bike fixing knowledge is flat tyres and adjusting seat posts/handle bars ! So..2 bike fixing manuals later i stripped the old bike, sanded the frame and re-painted it. Looking good so far.
Next steps : bike building course booked in the UK in 2 weeks (yay!!) then come back home and start the tricky bit! It’s loads of fun…i’ll post updates (and hurdles) in the coming weeks ![]()

hey Deb. that fork looks like its at a strange rake- was the bike ever in an accident? you might want to check the headtube for stress or wrinkles in the steel…
otherwise this is really great, cuz i have a similar project i need to get started on and i really have no idea how to go about painting a frame. everyone seems to have a different opinion. i’d like to know how your paint job holds up.
but yes, in order to be safe, get that frame checked out before investing too much time in it. biking is fun but so is safety!

Hey Kathleen thanks so much for your feedback ! I don’t know much about the hsitory of the bike..I still haven’t built it. When i get to the new headset etc will have a closer look !
Hope your project comes along well. I just used a can of spray paint on the frame (primer first) looks ok on close inspection..will see how it goes out in the real world
Cheers,
Deb
