“If you’ve never seen footage of the Copenhagen people riding bikes during rush hour – get ready – it’s quite a site, as nearly 38% of all transportation trips in Copenhagen are done by bike. With plenty of safe, bicycle infrastructure (including hundreds of miles of physically separated cycletracks) its no wonder that you see all kinds of people on bikes everywhere. 55% of all riders are female, and you see kids as young as 3 or 4 riding with packs of adults.”

I have been living in Copenhagen for 1.5 yrs. I am english and my girlfriend is american. we have always ridden bikes where we have lived, mainly due the efficiency of it. Moving to CPH put a whole other perspective to this. Danes ride bikes as their main mode of transport. They ride through this stunning city come sun, wind, rain, snow, ice, night & day. It is very refreshing. You have to remember that the winter is cold and long but that does not change people riding to work. You also have to remember that this is not just something they do because they like cycling – cars have 170% tax, fuel is expensive, parking it tight – it is necessary. It does need to been experienced. I wish all cities could have this.
