My brother Marcos, my friend Fred, and I all rode to Milwaukee from Chicago last Saturday. It was an 87 mile ride and we left at about 8:15 in the morning and arrived there around 5-5:30. I didn’t really plan on going with until a few days before hand so I didn’t get to train or anything like my brother did. And Fred is already a biking machine. So I definitely didn’t think I was going to make it.
Most of the trail up through the Chicago suburbs was paved so it was nice but as we neared the 40 mile mark we rode on a limestone gravel trail and it was hard to keep a good pace. We took a break at 40 miles and Fred changed my bike from fixed to single speed for me.
At 52 miles Marcos got a flat which gave me a little rest break. Then at 55 miles we took a bike route that led us to the lake and we rode along that for awhile and found a BMX biking competition which was cool to watch for awhile.
After that we rode on, and eventually we made it. The last 20 miles were hard for me but I kind of just shut down and kept riding. We then ate dinner at a Co-op that I forget the name of, delicious vegan food though. And my brothers girlfriend picked us up and I fell asleep in the car on the way back.
Here are a few pics thanks to Fred
I forgot my camera…
