I’m doing a little traveling and right now I’m in Hoi An, Vietnam and everywhere you turn there are bikes. Bikes are seriously everywhere! I love it!

But I haven’t seen a single fixed gear yet.
(And believe me, I’ve been looking out!)

I’m loving it none the less!

In the US we have this amazing site called http://sfbay.craigslist.org/ which is basically like the classified ads, where people can post things for sale or for rent and they also have a pretty amusing personals section. You can find pretty much anything and everything on craigslist. And I do mean everything!
Today I saw this cute post in the SF missed connections:
___
Every girl on a bike riding through the city - m4w - 29
I just want you to know, I notice you. All of you.
I love your short hair, I love your glasses, I love your shitty bike and your eclectic clothing choices.
I want to call out to you. I want to chase after you. I want to dive in front of you and yell “use me as a ramp!”
I know this isn’t appropriate behavior.
So, here’s what I need from you. Someday in the future, stop the bike. Notice the guy who is pretending he wasn’t staring at you five seconds ago? He’s probably listening to headphones and/or holding a coffee. Yeah, he’s the one. Say, “Hey, here’s your chance! Impress me.”
From now until that happens, I will work on figuring out exactly what to say.
___
I was going to reply to him with something really cute and witty, but then I realized that this guy must not be talking about me … “shitty bike” … heh, yeah right!

And if he doesn’t have the nerve to strike up a conversation with the girls on the “shitty bikes” then he’ll definitely never be able to talk to meeee!
(I totally got my frame off craigslist. It had been sitting in some guy’s basement for like 25 years. Score!)

I heard about these two photographers who are working on a project called “I Love My Bike Book” and it sounds super cool. They are traveling to various bike meccas in the US, talking to and taking pictures of cyclists and their beloved bikes. I got a hold of their schedule and it looks like they will be in San Francisco on Jan. 25th and 26th. (score! /can’t wait to show off my bike!)
If these guys are traveling through your city and if you reeeeaaallly really love your bike then you should definitely hit them up and get involved in the project. yay, bike love!
They’ve got a Facebook Page
OR you can send an email to: ilovemybikebook@gmail.com

MEET UP @ PUSHBIKE (3045 24th St.), EVERY OTHER THURSDAY @ 630PM.
We rode last night, which means the next ride will be Jan 21st. There were about 10 of us, I think, that came out last night and we rode for about two hours or so before heading to the bar
Yes, it is dark and cold outside right now, but come on… it really ain’t no thang! There’s certainly no snow on these streets, so no excuses! And it really does feel incredible to be out on your bike with a bunch of fierce females mobbing all over the city.
It was definitely the highlight of my week! And I’m looking forward to many more rides with this amazing group of gals, (although I’ll be in Dallas for the next one, boo).
I believe there is an email list for ride info. and the way I got on it was to contact the kind people at http://www.pushbikesf.com/

Blue Bottle Coffee is definitely some of the best coffee you can get in San Francisco, and… I’m just going to go ahead and put it out there and say, maybe also, in the *world*.
It’s really good! This morning I rode to b.b. for more beans, locked up outside.

And then as I was getting ready to leave this guy came outside to tell me that my bike looks really *spicy* which, is good. I think. Right?
Happy New Year, Everybody!
I hope your twenty-ten is filled with great cups of coffee and lots of bike compliments. <3!

“A quality city is not one that has great roads but one where a child can safely go anywhere on a bicycle.” Enrique Peñalosa, Former Mayor of Bogotá, Colombia.
Sunday Streets originated about 30 years ago in Bogota, Columbia as a day to promote free, health and community oriented events. Since then the concept has spread around the world, and 2010 will be the second year that San Francisco has hosted Sunday Streets.

Basically, Sunday Streets is a day when the city blocks off traffic in a certain neighborhood or closes a major city street to cars and buses, giving pedestrians and cyclists free reign.

It’s been a huge hit in San Francisco, and Mayor Newsom recently announced the new 2010 schedule, which will extend Sunday Streets into new communities and will feature nine dates and longer hours, from 10am - 330pm.
Here are the new dates and locations for 2010:
- March 14: Embarcadero, starting at Fisherman’s Wharf and PIER 39, south to China Basin and Terry Francois Blvd.
- April 11: Along the Great Highway, coinciding with World Health Day’s “1,000 Cities, 1,000 Lives” international event, as one of thousands of cities hosting simultaneous car-free events worldwide.
- April 18: Bayview, along Third Street from King and Fourth (Caltrain Station) to Bayview Playground.
- May 23: Bayview, in conjunction with the 3rd Street Corridor Project and Bayview Merchant’s Association’s “3rd Street Festival.”
- June 20: Mission, along Valencia and 24th Streets.
- July 11: Mission, exact location TBD.
- August 22: Great Highway/Golden Gate Park.
- September 19: NEW: Western Addition, exact location TBD.
- October 24: NEW Civic Center/Tenderloin, exact location TBD.
The last Sunday Streets I went to was back in July in the Mission and it turned out to be such a perfect day of bikes, art, food, friends and sunshine.

We ended the day in Dolores Park, one of the best spots in SF to just chill and soak up all the awesomeness that is our city. Merry Christmas, errybody <3!
