SF Critcal Mass Halloween Ride

October 31st, 2010 · Marin - San Francisco · No Comments

There were so many people ON BIKES!

And lots of people in costumes.

Keyboard cat was there!

I think this tape over helmet concept was my favorite.

And because this is SF there were a least a couple naked guys. Standard.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN! GO GIANTS!!!

Burning Man 2010: Metropolis

September 13th, 2010 · Marin - San Francisco · 5 Comments

I went to Burning Man for the first time this year and it was soooo amazing on so many levels. Burning Man is a huge art and music festival way out in the desert and this year over 51,000 people were in attendance. Almost everyone brings a bike to Burning Man. There are some designated green bikes that you can borrow but they disappear often and are hard to find. And actually, you can buy an old used bike at the entrance too. You wouldn’t want to bring a nice bike to Burning Man because the Alkali dust will get into everything and will ruin it. For my Burning Man Bike I went to the swap meet in Oakland and found a probably stolen bike for super cheap (sorry bro, I tipped a bit of my 40 our for ya) and then I used colored duct tape to decorate it. Building the bike was a fun project and riding around the playa was so much fun! I can’t wait to go back and do it again next year.

Here’s a few of my pics:

I’ve got a couple vids up on my youtube:

And here’s another great blog post on Bikes @ Burning Man:

Bike Party to Shut Down BP/ARCO Gas Station in SF

June 11th, 2010 · Marin - San Francisco · No Comments

Tomorrow!
June 11th, 530p-830p @ the Arco/BP gas station @ Fell & Divisadero in San Francisco CA

“In San Francisco, the cheap oil at the Arco station (owned by BP) has been luring drivers for years, creating long queues of cars that obstruct the Fell St. bicycle lane, the only level cross town bicycle route, endangering people who have chosen a more benign method of transportation. On Friday, we will turn a hostile place into a safe green pocket park.
But we need your help! Bring along a potted plant, old tires, a tree, a bench- anything to create a green and safe space where now cyclists fight for their survival every day.”

Enough is enough.
DON’T BOYCOTT BP. BOYCOTT ALL OIL COMPANIES!
NO MORE SPILLS. NO MORE CLIMATE DAMAGE.

ALL YOU ABLE BODIED PEOPLE RIDE A FREAKIN BIKE ALREADY.

Click HERE for more info. about the event.

East Bay Bike Party, Friday 5/21

May 20th, 2010 · Marin - San Francisco · 1 Comment

The very first East Bay Bike Party is happening THIS Friday, 5/21 in Oakland CA from 9pm – 12am. Meet up is at the 12th Street BART station around 9pm.

This is an easy fun ride that is open to all. We will be heading from Oakland to Berkeley and back, with “relaxing/party/mingling checkpoints” along the way.

This event was inspired by the San Jose Bike Party, which is now 2 years old and averages around 2000 people per monthly ride.

Come out and ride. Say hi. Have fun.

my bag is me

March 29th, 2010 · Marin - San Francisco · 1 Comment

purse (wallet, iphone, ear buds, keys, lip gloss, gum, hand lotion, hair ties, sunglasses, camera). a black hoodie. bike lock. crescent wrench. pen. moleskin. business cards. extra keys. bike gloves. tire levers. patch kit. caltrain bike tag. caltrain/bart/ferry tickets. hand pump.

I love my Chrome Bag. It might be a little cliche but it’s so comfy and it fits all my stuff perfectly. I won a super cool Freight bag in an alley cat race about a year ago, but it was waaay to big for me so I traded my friend for this one. It’s pretty beat up, but it’s all I need. And now after a year+ it’s become a part of me.

The SF Chrome store is right around the corner from my house.

Sometimes they throw art parties there on Friday nights. (cute boys and beer included).
So I’ve got nothing but love.

What goes into your bag?

Hi from Vietnam

March 7th, 2010 · Marin - San Francisco · 1 Comment

I’m doing a little traveling and right now I’m in Hoi An, Vietnam and everywhere you turn there are bikes. Bikes are seriously everywhere! I love it!

But I haven’t seen a single fixed gear yet.
(And believe me, I’ve been looking out!)

I’m loving it none the less!

missed connections on craigslist

January 26th, 2010 · Marin - San Francisco · 3 Comments

In the US we have this amazing site called http://sfbay.craigslist.org/ which is basically like the classified ads, where people can post things for sale or for rent and they also have a pretty amusing personals section. You can find pretty much anything and everything on craigslist. And I do mean everything!

Today I saw this cute post in the SF missed connections:
___

Every girl on a bike riding through the city – m4w – 29

I just want you to know, I notice you. All of you.

I love your short hair, I love your glasses, I love your shitty bike and your eclectic clothing choices.

I want to call out to you. I want to chase after you. I want to dive in front of you and yell “use me as a ramp!”

I know this isn’t appropriate behavior.

So, here’s what I need from you. Someday in the future, stop the bike. Notice the guy who is pretending he wasn’t staring at you five seconds ago? He’s probably listening to headphones and/or holding a coffee. Yeah, he’s the one. Say, “Hey, here’s your chance! Impress me.”

From now until that happens, I will work on figuring out exactly what to say.
___

I was going to reply to him with something really cute and witty, but then I realized that this guy must not be talking about me … “shitty bike” … heh, yeah right!

And if he doesn’t have the nerve to strike up a conversation with the girls on the “shitty bikes” then he’ll definitely never be able to talk to meeee! ;)
(I totally got my frame off craigslist. It had been sitting in some guy’s basement for like 25 years. Score!)

I love my bike book

January 10th, 2010 · Marin - San Francisco · No Comments

ilmybb-flyer-dates-pinp-thumb-1

I heard about these two photographers who are working on a project called “I Love My Bike Book” and it sounds super cool. They are traveling to various bike meccas in the US, talking to and taking pictures of cyclists and their beloved bikes. I got a hold of their schedule and it looks like they will be in San Francisco on Jan. 25th and 26th. (score! /can’t wait to show off my bike!)

If these guys are traveling through your city and if you reeeeaaallly really love your bike then you should definitely hit them up and get involved in the project. yay, bike love!

They’ve got a Facebook Page
OR you can send an email to: ilovemybikebook@gmail.com

San Francisco Ladies Ride

January 9th, 2010 · Marin - San Francisco · No Comments

pushbike

MEET UP @ PUSHBIKE (3045 24th St.), EVERY OTHER THURSDAY @ 630PM.

We rode last night, which means the next ride will be Jan 21st. There were about 10 of us, I think, that came out last night and we rode for about two hours or so before heading to the bar ;)

Yes, it is dark and cold outside right now, but come on… it really ain’t no thang! There’s certainly no snow on these streets, so no excuses! And it really does feel incredible to be out on your bike with a bunch of fierce females mobbing all over the city.
It was definitely the highlight of my week! And I’m looking forward to many more rides with this amazing group of gals, (although I’ll be in Dallas for the next one, boo).

I believe there is an email list for ride info. and the way I got on it was to contact the kind people at http://www.pushbikesf.com/
