Take a look at Pedaling.tv, a series of webisodes exploring the intersection of food and cycling. Interesting.. the first episode follows a “fixie crew” around NYCÂ on their culinary adventures. Pretty straightforward branding push here.. Specialized bikes and Whole Foods are featured prominently.
What do you guys think of Pedaling?
BSNYC has a hilarious review here.

MIT’s SENSEable City Laboratory has brought technology used on the racetrack to your bike. The project is called the Copenhagen Wheel and features a back hub that captures kinetic energy generated when you brake. The energy is stored in batteries in the hub until you need it - like when you’re pushing up that last hill. When hooked up to your iPhone, the Copenhagen Wheel does even more:
By using a series of sensors and a Bluetooth connection to the user’s iPhone, which can be mounted on the handlebars, the wheel can monitor the bicycle’s speed, direction and distance traveled, as well as collect data on air pollution and even the proximity of the rider’s friends.
The team also added an anti-theft system that can text message you to location of your bike if it ever gets stolen. So smart!
What do you think? Would you ride the Copenhagen wheel?

Think back to your childhood - remember your first bike? Sparkly pink streamers, little white basket in front, and a coaster brake.

Coasties (no I’m not talkin the Ugg-boot wearing variety) are offering deep-v wheelsets with coaster brake hubs that allow you to pedal backwards in order to brake. The site says coasties “give you the clean look of fixed gear without all the danger.”
Hmmm, interesting. What do you think? Cool idea? Or is everyone just trying to make some money by jumping on the fixie bandwagon?

Shanghai is the home of the xiao long bao, or soup dumpling. Since moving here, I haven’t really been impressed, so my friends & I got together to seek out the best the city has to offer. And with the Shanghai Alleycat coming up, we thought this would be good training for the race.

We followed this ride map and hit up a bunch of spots around Shanghai.

Our whips

Our reward!

Shanghai is a city where most cyclists secure their bikes by just throwing a U-lock around the back tire. Shanghai is also a city where most cyclists come back to find that their whip has been lifted into the back of a sketchy truck and carted off to a Chinese chop shop.
Enter Cyclehoop

Cyclehoop is a product designed to easily create and install more “fly-parking” (locking to street furniture) in urban cities.
Pretty cool design, the two loops enable cyclists to lock both wheels, plus they keep bikes from falling over (you ever see Williamsburg, BK after a storm?)
A great idea, hope to see it in use!
