I had a great time at the Super Mario Track race on Saturday night, the moon was full, the weather was warm and Em and I were good to go in our matching Princess Peaches outfits. We rocked up to the usual haunt, The Cricketers in Surry Hills with Jay (Em’s boyfriend) who had the most superb Luigi costume and car/bike combo I’ve ever seen. Not surprisingly he won Best Dressed.
After much chat and bike perving Lewis (The Ringleader) came out with the manifesto in hand. After a couple of minutes Em had the route, check points and strategy sussed, she had her “I’m in the mood to kick some arse” Tiara on and I had a feeling the arse about to be kicked was mine.
Lewis gave the green light and it was game on, I looked around to find Em and she was already 10 metres up the hill and on a mission, “Shit!” I’d better get my pink sparkly skirt into gear. First stop, Harry’s Café De Wheels, via Kings Cross (Sydney’s red light district). I thought it may be interesting riding through that part of town dressed as we were, but all Em and I heard were yells of encouragement “Tutu! I love you!” “Go Pinkie!”
Next stop York St, via half a dozen flights of stairs that I’d much rather forget about and through The Domain avoiding concert goers on the footpath. Oops, “Sorry!” I got too close to the back of another rider and ended up kissing his back wheel.
Onto Wharf 10 at the harbours edge, this is where I lost Em, she was out of sight and I made the mistake of following another rider who was more lost than me. Quick call to Em, some general directions and we were back on track, up the hill to Broadway. Em was in fine form, she was up those hills like the Energizer Bunny, she was pushing me to my limits and I realised this wasn’t going to be my usual alley cat cruise around the city dropping into checkpoints to socialise and have shots of Vodka. After receiving lipstick kisses from the Three Point Turnz girls we were off to Hyde Park to pick up the secret checkpoint manifesto.
We were greeted by Susan who offered up a lucky dip that in my case was not so lucky, I pulled a ghost blooper which resulted in a shot of rum, yech. Collected the manifesto and away to the secret checkpoint to find the boys, once there we partook in a game of foot down to get our manifestos signed.
We were on the home stretch, Moore Park, Em was off in a puff of pink and blue. Screaming through the city, like horses that know they’re on their way back to the stables after a long ride. “Where is everyone?” It’s a decent sized park with not much light and a few hills. I was looking forward to flopping my ridiculously hot and sweaty body onto the hopefully cool grass when a child’s bike was thrust before me. One more checkpoint to complete, ride the kid’s bike around the 3 grassy hills, back onto the path and you’re done.
After a gathering and presentation on the grass we all made it back to The Cricketers for some drinks and tales of accidents and near misses. I have to say I enjoyed this alley cat the most out of all of the ones I ‘competed’ in. I don’t know whether it was the silly outfit or the full moon or whether it was because it’s the first time I’ve actually competed, and that was only because I was chasing Em. I’ve never been to an alley cat that has recognised female winners as well as male winners so maybe having that extra recognition made it seem more worthwhile competing. There were more girls than I’d seen before turn up to this one which was great, about 8 all up. B was the first girl in points and Em and I were the first girls across the line, the results show Emily + Meg tied but Emily definitely won, she totally kicked my arse and I’m happy for it!!

Aloha! So for my 21st birthday, a bar hop was an obvious necessity in the night’s plans, so what better way than make it into a bicycle ride?! We started off on a nice 3 mile ride out to La Mariana Sailing Club, a funky original tiki bar.
There were so many bikes!
And most of the ever expanding Punani Pedal Club!
As we moved on to more bars there was bike parking madness!
So it was an amazingly fun night and ride, thanks to all who rode and partied!

Punani Pedal Club hosted its first Alley Cat for our friend Christopher who is moving to Portland!
The manifest included his favourite spots in Honolulu, including a couple bars, the university’s “free store” and the infamous abandoned Queen Theater! All stops had to be completed within 40 minutes….
Stop 1! Queen Theater where a photo must be taken!
Stop 2! Convenience store by Young Scale Co. where a mini whiskey must be consumed!
Stop 3! The University Free Store where something must be left behind!
these ladies found a castle!
Stop 4! Anna Bananas where a beer must be quickly consumed!
Stop 5! Fresh cafe where a cookie must be eaten! We found Open Mic there!
Stop 6! Smiths Union Bar where Karaoke must be sung! Only 1 team made it there as the rest of us got distracted by the open mic.. winners!
Le Pista Resistance and the Sydney Bicycle Film Festival crew are proud to present you with the Harbour City Crown.
A concept that has been in the works for a few months now, that has been pushed through the organising stages in order to run in conjunction with the BFF.
The idea – 3 rounds, accumulate as many points as you can, finish the weekend with the most points – WIN!
Prizes, honour, glory, bragging rights and street cred are on the line.

The Scaredy Cat went great! We had an amazing turnout. Special thanks to Halcyon for getting all the sponsors and prizes and every one else for getting the race set up (2W1C for hosting, Keith for designing the poster, Mark for getting the spoke cards printed and laminated, and of course Skumlife and Cupcranks for coming out to race!).
The results are as follows:
Guys -
1. Richard
2. Sam
3. Dave
Girls -
1. Devan
2. Skye
3. Candice
On another note, I also just had a new wheel day (well, I’ve technically had the wheel for two months, but I finally paid it off and put it on).
The NUTS! held the Early halloween Alley cat race a couple of weeks ago. We usually have a monthly alley cat race every 3rd Saturday. It was a little bit early halloween party but many of the riders came dressed in their Halloween best and riding around Nagoya city, was super fun!

I really enjoyed myself dressed up as a little duckie and love riding around in costume especially NOT halloween night. Good times – cheers! More pics HERE!
The first ever Nashville Scaredy Cat will take place on October 31st. The race is hosted by 2Wheels1Crank and Halcyon Bike Shop in conjunction with Skumlife and Cupcranks. Sign up and registration is at 2 p.m. at Centenial Park in front of the Parthenon. The race is free an there are a lot of great prizes. This will definitely be a lot of fun, and there will be both a guys’ and girls’ bracket, so if you’re in the Nashville area, get out there and race! Sponsors include: Surly, Origin 8, QBP, Keirin Culture, and Velocity.
Also check out the Hobart Kitchen. ‘The aim is to get the whole of Hobart rolling by giving its people access to cheap bikes, tools and knowledge to maintain them’ - Awesome guys!
Quick - flash back to your ziggy days and bring out the music sheets. Tomorrow night we plan to roll em out all over the street. Girls make sure you come along, I can make the event now and want some fierce compeition! Although there is no time to pull together an outfit. Any ideas?
The TKBMA - Tokyo Bicycle Messenger Association has put together a really sweet video encouraging people to come and visit them in Tokyo for the Worlds.
“On September 19th-23rd and the 26th, Tokyo will be home to the largest International Bicycle Messenger Race/Event in the world. We know you’ve all been waiting for a good excuse to visit Japan. Despite the bad global economy, we whole-heartedly hope that as many bicycle messengers and their friends will attend this event as possible. TKBMA has been working hard to prepare the most exciting cycling event imaginable. They’ve been studying to improve their English in order to better communicate with all the international messengers who will be coming to Tokyo. Are their efforts obvious?
This video shows a BBQ party organized in order to promote the event, drum up new supporters and volunteers, and bring the organizers and volunteers closer together. The BBQ was held at Shiokaze Park in Odaiba (just a short walk from the site at which CMWC 2009 will be held). Gundam was in attendance, as well. But, he stayed powered-down, so no one was hurt.”
