During the holidays, the City and County of Honolulu puts up an impressive lights display. Unfortunately, this year was a bit of a letdown with fewer lights than usual, but we still had a fun and rainy bike ride to see it all.

Happy holidays and New Year from Honolulu! Cheehoo!

It’s holiday season!.. I recently have a good chance to visit Clockenflap Festival in Hong Kong and surely brought out my camera and took dozens of snap shots of the great landscape and Hong Kong city life. These are few of my shots which contain the spirits of cycling around Hong Kong.

Last Wednesday, I was going out with friends for Raboo Raboo, I must say that this is the most crowded Raboo Raboo in Jakarta 2011, hundreds cyclist are joining. We ride about 18 km from Taman Menteng (Central Jakarta) to Fatahillah Museum (West Side of Jakarta) and then back again to Taman Menteng, when we arrived we notice that there’s a night market in Fatahillah, wow.. double pleasure! we were having so much fun! See more photos on my previous post on Reflecteur Bandi

Many apologies for the absence… So many fun things happened this year since I moved to Berlin. The sun is setting earlier. The air is dark and chilly. Woah it’s already December! The end of a year. So a catch up. One more big party is coming up for your all year conclusion! I need more girls to race! ( ´艸｀) 〜♡

Pioneers of the global fixed gear bike culture Keirin Cycle Culture Café and Rollapaluza come together for the first ever Rollapaluza roller-race in Berlin.

Keirin Cycle Culture Café:

Keirin Cycle Culture Café is recognized worldwide as the first ever “fixed gear shop” having first opened back in 2004 as a hangout for their messenger mates (all members of Keirin and Rollapaluza are ex-couriers), selling them coffee, bikes and parts and mending their bikes. Rollapaluza:

The first Rollapaluza roller race was held in a pub in London in 2000 and Rollpaluza involves two riders racing over 500 metres on custom built static roller-rigs with their progress displayed on a huge dial and their times recorded by split-second digital timing, all to the backdrop of cheering crowds and pumping music.

Coming from the craziness of Honolulu’s streets full of potholes and terrible drivers, a vacation to Oregon was the Hawaiian cyclist’s paradise. Luckily with Hawaii powers, we brought the sunshine to Oregon and had fantastic fall cycling weather with wonderful friends. Our first stop was for a delicious Thanksgiving feast in Corvallis, home of Oregon State University. This college town is flat and comprised of over 90% bicycle lanes. We visited our part-time Hawaii resident friend and bike polo enthusiast Eilif, who lives at the Corvallis “Bike Haus”.

The Bike Haus residents graciously lent us polo bikes and took us on a mini bike ride on some paths and to downtown Corvallis.

And by chance, we ended up with the Corvallis bike and pedicab crew’s section in the holiday parade. The kids enjoyed the pedicabs, bike tricks and wheel guards on the polo bikes.. hopefully it made some of them want to ride bikes!

From Corvallis, we went to Portland for a weekend of bikes, beer, friends and good food. The Honolulu community bike shop KVIBE is getting a cargo bike from a local Portland framebuilder, so we went to the cargo-bike specialists at Splendid Cycles to check out the bikes, and pose for pictures.

The Ace Hotel where we stayed offered free bike rentals to hotel guests, which allowed us to explore the bike friendly streets of Portland with great happiness. Our friend Shawn gave us a tour of the North East Alberta district and other friends Brett and Megan biked us around the South East area.

Overall, a successful vacation from a tropical paradise to a cycling paradise!

A world class course awaits featuring oversize obstacles the likes of which you have never seen. Races running all day long. Race multiple times and win!
Races will be held near Metson Lake in Golden Gate Park. (MAP)
Costumes are optional, though they may help start positions.

To help big up all the female riders, every registered female racer will get a pair of Sheila Moon sleeves/moonwarmers. Sweet!

About Bike Babes:

We are a sassy social cycling club that meet every Tuesday to cycle our city. We keep a steady pace and aren’t afraid to work up a sweat. But we don’t race, we just ride, and we look pretty cute doing it. If you’re keen, here’s the lowdown:

WHEN: Every Tuesday, leaving from Taylor Square at 6:50pm
WHERE: Alternate weeks of Centennial Park laps and routes out of the city limits (Mascot, Marrickville, Bondi etc)
BRING: Lights, helmets, water, coins for pick ‘n’ mix pit stops, and your favourite cycling gear (wear your lycra – especially if it’s of the fruity 80s variety!)

On the first Tuesday of each month we have a special group dinner after riding, somewhere cheap and cheerful in the Surry Hills region.

Be prepared to have a shit load of fun, look and feel great, and hang with like-minded babes who love cycling as much as you do.
