OK Joe's!
Sunday: 816 Bike Collective Benefit.
The collective is a community supported bike shop. They work with volunteers passing on knowledge about bike mechanics and maintence. They donate bicycles to kids and adults in need of a mode of transportation and empowerment. Their current building at the corner of 31st and Troost was without electricity throughout the winter. They are looking to relocated to a space that will be more supportive of their efforts. Also, bearings need grease and grease costs money. This is their major benefit of the year. Come out and support bicycle awareness and empowerment in the 816!!
5 PM-Alleycat! $10 to enter, free admission into the benefit show. Starting point: Firefighter’s Fountain @ 31st and Washington. Tons of fun and prizes.

7 PM- Benefit Show at Californos [4124 Pennsylvania Avenue]. Silent Auction, Bands, DJs, and KCSprints! $7 at the door!
This week is going to be busy! Hopefully I’ll be able to squeeze a nap in poolside. ha!

Name: Caitlin
Nickname: Corky
Star sign/Blood type: Scorpio/A+
Birthday: 11/2
Current city: Kansas City, Missouri [one cities, two states]
What’s the bike scene like in Kansas City for females?
I think it’s pretty diverse. From cyclocrossin’ to trickin’ to just straight crusin’ there are ladies representing every scene here. That being said, Kansas City is not the most bike friendly place. We get all four seasons [right now being humidity central], have uncourteous/uninformed drivers, and hills a plenty. It does take a certain amount of toughness to navigate the city daily. Most females [and males] new to cycling &/or the city underestimate themselves. Only way to get stronger is to power up hills smiling through the glistening sweat till the top. [a little Skeletonwitch blasting through the earbuds helps a bit, too!]
What’s your favourite ride right now? My Raleigh 1972/1973 (?) Professional conversion.
Where’s your favourite place to ride?
Kansas City! Specifically down to the West Bottoms and out East. I dig the train tracks, industrial buildings, and empty streets. I’ve also had some great adventures in Chicago during the summer. It’s so flat you can ride for hours and not even notice!
Favourite riding outfit: Bike shorts and nightgown, super breezy and lightweight. Perfect for the humid Killa City summers!
Favourite food: I’ve been on a big Kale kick lately.
Favourite movie: Mash. [I don’t really watch movies, I tend to fall asleep]
Favourite book: Night
What makes you laugh? Laffy Taffy jokes. Kickball arguments.
What makes you angry? Drivers not obeying laws [indicating/stopping at stop signs] and squealing children.
What are you listening to on your I-pod? Currently: Eccentric Soul V.1 [The Capsoul Label], White Flight [White Ark], Beach Fossils [s/t], Sonny and the Sunsets [Tomorrow is Alright].
Do you have any pets? Yep. Two dogs and cat.
Anything else you’d like to ad? Rock.Chalk.
