I’ve been lazy and just finished sorting out my great memories of bike trip to Australia. I miss the weather back thereee, it is snowing here in Nagoya today, awwwww! so I would like to share some pics of my holidays to keep warm here like the sumer time…

Riding in Melbourne is great. It’s really flat and everything is close together so it is easy to ride around.
I went to see my friends there. I met these lovely messengers at CMWC Tokyo.

The funniest guys in Melbourne! Gotta see Brian & Lane if you are ever around there. They know how to throw a party. It is really great to have cool friends all over the world.
Melbourne was over 37℃, I was just about sit down in the shade of a tree… then 2 guys on bikes came up and said “Are you Brian’s friend?” I was like “Yeees…” Mmmm, I recognized him by his dread locks hair from CMWC tokyo. We didn’t know each other, he is from Dublin and Im from Nagoya but we start getting some drinks and became friends. It was just an accident that we met in Melbourne but it happens when you ride a bicycle!

For New Years Party…

Hello mate! I went to travel around Sydney & Melbourne with my best friend Nikon & NISHIKI for my holidays. It is summer time there, Gotta Go now!

My biggest reason to come out to Sydney was…

Meg and Tarn
“MEET THE MEG!”

Tarn, Rie and Meg
As you can expect through the Candy Cranks blog, Meg is one of the greatest and nicest people you ever meet! I met Meg at CMWC Tokyo and became great friends. I didn’t know anyone in Sydney but thanks Meg! Candy Cranks screwed up my courage to make a lot of new friends in Sydney and all over the globe!

Meg and her partner are so kind and took me a lot of cool places. They’ve got their own work space for bikes hidden the back stage of the Sydney Theater Company, looks soo sick! I was riding my bike on the stage as an actress in front of NO audience, hehe…

Great to see messengers working in the city!

Ausie burger is HUGE!!

I like riding in the city to explore bikes and coffee. It is the best way to feel the local culture, I think★
I am a big fan of her blog btw…

Traveling with bicycle is really amazing…
Bicycle leads me to meet great people. I like Japanese proverb;
一期一会(Ichigo-Ichie): Treasure every encounter, for it will never recur.
I was so impressed that people in Australia are so nice and friendly. Also Wine, Beer and Coffee are absolutely my type of taste. I will definitely move in this year!
Thanks to Meg, Tarn, Emily, J, Sydney Sunday Crew and messengers. It was great to meet u all! Awesome time. Cheers Sydney!

Good news for NYC bike commuters! The Bicycle Access to Office Buildings Law just went into effect on December 11th, 2009, whereby allowing cyclists the opportunity to park their bikes in or close to the workplace.
This is great news to make life easier for current commuters and to encourage would-be commuters. (After you’ve survived the harrowing NYC morning commute, the last thing you want to worry about is a secure space to park your bike.)
For the law to apply, your employer needs to be located in a commercial office building with at least one freight elevator.
Of course, if there is no freight elevator accessible, you can still ask your employer if you can carry your bike up the stairs. (I once worked for a company that allowed us to park our bikes in the basement. When the basement was no longer available, we carried them up the stairs to an unused part of the office. People may complain about damage/wall smudges, so be careful with your tires on the landings.)
If you use this new program, or if you have an employer who has offered a helpful solution to accommodate your bike, let us know!

I’m back in Sydney now, I’m certainly going to miss Japan. I had the most amazing time and met so many lovely people. I’ll definitely be going back, I feel like I’ve seen such a small part of a such a varied and beautiful country. I’ve put my CMWC pics on flickr, you can check them out here.

More good times at the Worlds on Thursday, headed over to watch the finals of the Skids and Sprint race competitions which had many thrills and spills and drew a huge crowd. Benzy <Melbourne courier> put in a top effort, while Joe <Melbourne courier> displayed some fantastic agility, he managed to sip/skid/stack all without spilling a single drop of his Sapporo, good work Joe!
The highlight of the sprint race had to be The Original Nakenger, a Frenchman who apparently earnt his nickname some years ago in Paris when he threw his kit off and attempted to swim the river Seine with his bike in tow. He obviously made it to get naked on another day, I’ve heard mixed reports on the survival of the bike. Viva La Française! I say. With all the images of naked chicks on bikes flooded all over the internet I say we could do with a few more fit, naked men on bikes!

Awesome day at the CMWC! Tarn and I were cruising along trying to find the venu when we spotted Yuji, a really lovely Tokyo cycle messenger. We got chatting to him and tagged along with him into the venue. There was a massive turnout, Ive met so many really cool people from all over the world, including some home grown Aussie messengers from Sydney and Melbourne. There are so many amazing bikes on display, I dont know where to look next. You can see how much time, thought and design has gone into each of them, so many different colour combos and variations, its like being in a candy store.
I was getting busy taking photos and Tarn had a ride on the new Brooklyn Gangster. We met up with Prolly and and watched him bust some moves.
We ll be heading over to watch the finals today, its been great to see so many girls entered as well, I counted around 10 so far which is awesome.
All the local Tokyo bikes shops have stalls there and I picked up a few things like these sweet anodised, CNC ed brakes with a new patented pulling mechanism. Theyll be going on my new Candy Cranks ride.
