Here in Toronto we have a group called Critical Sass who likes to shake it up and cheer on people who ride in Critical Mass. Recently, Dandyhorse asked to have us for a photoshoot to appear in their next issue! Check out some of the group shots, plus what we look like at Critical Mass. Can’t wait for warmer weather so we can have those big crowd turnouts again.
Here’s one of our cheers for you:
Three rights make a left, but two wrongs don’t make a right
Just ignore the cops and keep riding your bike!
They might get kinda hostile, but we don’t have to fight.
Two wheels take the lane, it’s the law, it’s our right!
Wear lights, and bells, and act with class.
Only run a red if your ass is in the mass.
Slow it at the front, and speed it at the back.
Keep all this in mind to keep the mass on track.
Bicycles don’t care about your gender, race, or class.
And all ages are welcome to join in the mass.
So here’s our story’s moral, we hope you’ll teach and learn:
All vehicles are equal, just signal when you turn!

I heard about these two photographers who are working on a project called “I Love My Bike Book” and it sounds super cool. They are traveling to various bike meccas in the US, talking to and taking pictures of cyclists and their beloved bikes. I got a hold of their schedule and it looks like they will be in San Francisco on Jan. 25th and 26th. (score! /can’t wait to show off my bike!)
If these guys are traveling through your city and if you reeeeaaallly really love your bike then you should definitely hit them up and get involved in the project. yay, bike love!
They’ve got a Facebook Page
OR you can send an email to: ilovemybikebook@gmail.com
It has been a while since my last post reason being I have been away traveling for the last seven months and just got home to Dublin. It is great to be home, after spending the last few months traveling around Asia, Dublin seems a lot less hectic
After saying hello to everyone my first port of call was checking out my bike which had been gathering dust in the garage. I really missed her while I was away! All she needed was a quick pump up of the tires and I was motoring again but I soon realised it was not the weather for cycling in Dublin; it was so cold I nearly froze; I am definitely missing the hot weather I left behind! We’ve had some sever frost and snow over the last few days with temperatures going as low as -10 degrees which has made cycling around the city a bit like cycling on an ice rink!
white on white!
cold!
So unfortunately my bike has gone back into the garage for the time being until the ice melts. Meanwhile I have my feet up by the fire and have started the mammoth task of sorting through seven months of holiday pictures below are some pictures of bicycles that caught my eye in Hanoi, Vietnam.
My bike is better than yours...
Everyone does it, checking out their neighbours bike while waiting for the lights to turn green, I know I do

These old bikes get a lot of use and abuse but they are so sturdy they look like they could last forever!
Images of Tokyo from 16-23 November 2009. It wasn’t a sight-seeing trip, but there was plenty to see just hanging out with interesting people from Japan and abroad — many converging on Tokyo for the 5th annual Bicycle Film Festival. This is my week in Tokyo.
Check out the original set of images on flickr. Thanks Andy!

The TyK Project was created to address modern day stereotypes of women. Frustrated with being pegged as either mechanically savvy but asexual, or cute but inept with with their bikes, the PinUps showcase the dual nature that women cyclists embody.
The ladies of TyK are everyday cyclists. They are not models. These women ride the streets of Chicago for a living, for transportation, or just for fun. But once in the photo studio, they’re given a chance to show off their femininity.
The proceeds from the TyK Project go directly to the Chicago Women’s Health Center (CWHC). Providing health care and health education to women in Chicago, they have long filled a gap in the US health care system. TyK is proud to give CWHC a leg up.

Just a quick post to draw your attention to a project by Laura Normandin and her husband. They took a tonne of bike photos during their trip to Scandinavia this past summer and made them into a lovely book about bikes. Check out her site for a couple more photos of the beautiful book.
The New York Times interviewed John Watson (Prolly) talking about the Thursday night Peel Sessions in Williamsburg NYC. See the audio visual which is really cool and the full NY Times article.
Found this pretty book on my saturday afternoon stroll through the shops:
“Fixed Gear Maximum Reduction Minimum Boundaries presents the aesthetic impact of the Fixed Gear bike movement, showing the differentiations and regional differences in design between the scenes in New York, Tokyo, Berlin and Los Angeles.”
