Every Wednesday except the last Wednesday of the month, BBG KCMO will be hosting single speed, free or fixed, races at Westport High School Track. Free to enter, prizes for the fastest one to complete 20 laps. Come out and give it a go. Starts around 6:30. Even if you aren’t down to race, bring a brew, trick, or just chill fun times to be had by all.
I’m finally recovered from Pat’s Peak 12 hour race. The course was about 5.5 miles that crisscrossed up a ski slope and shot you back down. The goal was to do as many laps in the 12 hour time period that you can. The race ran from 12PM-12AM, so night time laps were included which usually aren’t my favorite. I intended for it to just be training for the 100 miler on Labor Day, but I got caught up in the competitiveness of the race and managed to pull off a win over the geared girls on my SS!! Here are a few pics from the race.
Copenhagen Parts have come up with a very clever thing - an integrated handlebar and basket.
It’s made from heat-treated alloy tubing and rod, making it lightweight and robust. It can be installed just like any normal handlebar by attaching it to the bicycle using a two part stem (A-head stem).
The bike porter has been nominated as Best Bicycle Accessory 2010 by the Munich Bike Expo and also goes very well with veloheld bikes.

I have about an 8 mile bike ride to work, I usually take a street called Kedzie which has a shared bike lane then get up on the North Shore Channel Trail. It’s an okay ride and I thought I would share some pictures.
Shared bike lane means both sides of the lane aren’t marked off and you have to trust the cars. It’s not too bad.
^How its marked.
Then you get to the trail. This is the river it goes by – it’s super disgusting though. Most of the rivers that run through Chicago are man made so something just isn’t right about them, very polluted.
Once I get to the trail I usually take off my helmet so that I cool off before I get to work, I don’t like walking in all red and sweaty. The trail goes through the Chicago Park districts then it crosses into the suburbs Lincolnwood, then Skokie.
When the trail hits Lincolnwood and Skokie it’s known as the sculpture park also due to the sculptures that line the path. It’s a nice path and brings me right by work
Holy smokes…the mountain bikers came out of the woodwork for the local Weeping Willow race!! Over 400 riders competed in all! Unfortunately and fortunately, there were only 3 in the women’s single speed division. It was a terrible race for me though… serious cramps kicked in a little over half way through. I barely made it to the finish! Outside of the misery of the cramps, it was an incredible day with friends, bikes, and beautiful weather. Well, the guys at DarkHorse Cycles really know how to put on a fun event at the Singlespeed-A-Palooza Race. We showed up the day before to give the course a test run and found it to be fast, fun, and swoopy. Too bad the rain came in over night and turned the surface to thick greasy mud! Here are some fun pics from the pre-ride through the end of the muddy event.

Tour de Fun was a really awesome event. Keith, Skye, and I rode the 40 miles from Nashville to Murfreesboro and got there pretty early. We started grilling out at MOAB, which soon after became crowded with well over 200 people. The first few bands played there while every one else just hung out and did some tricking. The ride started early evening, and we all rode to the first house show. For the rest of the night every one rode from house to house to hear different bands play (there were a total of 22 bands playing at 10 different houses). The ride ended at Temptation Club where a bunch of prizes were raffled off (thanks MOAB for donating all the prizes!) and the last performances of the night took place. Overall this event went extremely smooth; especially for how many people showed up and how many house shows there were. Tyler really did an excellent job and organized probably one of the best bike events I’ve ever been to; it definitely rivals the Midnight Ridazz‘ Ghost Ride the Strip. Keith and I had a really awesome time and always have fun hanging out with the Murfreesboro kids (Thanks Tyler for organizing the event, and thanks so much Wayne, Natalie, Charlie, and Jessi for letting us crash with you and eat your delicious vegan mac and cheese!). I’ll post the pictures Keef and I took once we develop them.
