Less than one month up the Hungarian Track Cycling Cup!!!

We had the last training competition in Millenáris (Milli) Velodrome last saturday!

Sorry it took me so long to get to this; the past week has been crazy and subsequently very busy. Anyways, if you somehow haven’t yet heard, La Brakeless held a three day bike event this past weekend called Summer Fix LA. On Saturday there was a huge fixed freestyle comp with hundreds of people in attendance and 39 competing riders (including myself!). I have to say, LA Brakeless did an amazing job with this event. The comp was so incredibly organized and just very well planned out. They really went all out for this, and it made for a seriously great time!

The winners of each group are as follows.
Beginners: Joe
Intermediate: Josh Boothby
Advanced: Wonka, Congo, Spencer (first, second, and third respectively)

I was the only girl who competed so I ended up winning $250 at La Brakeless (Thanks so so much again!). Also, huge thanks to Ben and Cinelli for making it even possible for me to compete! So much love!

Needless to say it was pretty intimidating when I showed up so I actually didn’t register to compete. Midway through the first few rounds while I was just sitting on the sidelines taking photos, my name got called. I was totally shocked, and tried to get out of competing by simply not going out there. However, John (Prolly) was one of the judges and he called me out on it; I swear if he didn’t tell me to get my ass out there I wouldn’t have competed. I am so happy he did though because I really had a lot of fun. Every one there was so incredibly cool and supportive. Seriously, thanks so much for that guys, it really helps! Saturday, local track enthusiast Lucius premiered the film he put together from the first Pro Series held at Dick Lane Velodrome.  It’s available online now for all those unable to see it then.  It really captures the energy of the event and the bumpiness and steep banking of our track. Enjoy!

This is my first post so I want to say HELLO to all the awesome ladies
who read/write/enjoy candy cranks.  I live in and fell in love with cycling in
Atlanta, Georgia - despite it being one of the least cycling friendly
cities in the country.  We have hostile drivers, fast roads, poor public
transit, and bike lanes filled with gravel, grates, and broken glass.
But somehow I love it and am not alone.  The cyclists here are pretty
diverse: we have road riders, super commuters, serious track riders
(we have a velodrome!), fixed gear trick enthusiasts, and about ten

bike couriers.  We are hosting the 2010 North American Cycling Courier Championship (NACCCs) and are all super
excited to have our city descended upon by cyclists from cities from
all-over.

I own two bikes: a soma rush and a bianchi pista concept.  Actually, I
just purchased a third, a bmc roadracer, on ebay, but it hasn’t
arrived yet.  I think I have a bicycle buying/building habit that I
have no intention of breaking.

I am learning to race at Dick Lane Velodrome and am trying out this whole
“training” thing.  I always enjoyed alleycat races, but am trying to
step up to a more serious level of dedication.  We’ll see how that
goes… I have a lazy streak that tends to get in the way.  However,
the community at our velodrome is both encouraging and fun, so
it’s easy to get drawn into the race nights.

I plan to post about local events (we’re having a bunch of FUNdraisers
for NACCCs) and my likely difficult fight to learn how to ride my new
road bike (gears confuse me).  I will probably use parenthesis too
often (sorry) and hopefully not bore anyone to tears.

Circles did great job! The frame is all hand painted by Shinya (owner of Circles), I asked him very complicated flower patterns. Shinyadid amazing job on hand paintwork and matching all parts to be dressed up. He shows his excellent taste in customized bike from his experience of learning and working at fashion industry for many years.

This is my 1st new customized bike♥ My 1st bike is very old NISHIKI from San Diego and I didn’t expect that I was going to be a pedal freak until I met Circles bike shop in Nagoya. Cirlces helps to define what cycling is and leading the way in showing people how to have fun on two wheels and find on your way to open up of new world. Shinya said that “You can do anything on your bike.” That’s true. So I do my Coffee bike there.

So, my next target is to win and be on the podium at the Bang King track race coming up in August this summer!

Nashville’s Centennial Park has a full-scale replica of the Parthenon with an art museum and a recreation of the fourty-two foot Athena statue found in the original one. The park is one of my favorite places to practice tricks in Nashville, and you’re always sure to run into friends riding there. If you’re in town, I would definitely recommend checking it out.

My Hold Fast Straps arrived in the mail last week and I am in love with them. I left work early to stop by two by four on South Street in Philadelphia to pick up some Animal BMX pedals. The guys at the shop were gracious enough to let me borrow their pedal wrench to swap out my old cages. When I say borrow I mean … they did all of the work for me. Thanks two by four!

I can’t see myself going back to cages and straps any time soon. They really did their research and testing and made a great product. I highly recommend these. The best part is I can wear any shoes with them. Shoes that have a slim sole (flats) and sneakers with a little thicker sole are fine because I can adjust the straps in a matter of seconds. One note: make sure you tighten the fastening buckles down.

It’s been a while but I finally made it back out to Ourimbah State Forest to hit the cross country track. It’s one of my favourite rides but a bit of a hike to get to at roughly 1.5 - 2 hours north of Sydney. They often hold races in the Forest and it’s also home to a gnarly downhill section that I mistook for the cross country track on my first trip there. I only made that mistake once.

Emily and I packed the van, loaded up on some tasty snacks and got rolling. It was superb day, lots of sunshine and not too hot, although you quickly warm up on the trails.  For some reason the start of the trail is now called ‘bong alley’. It’s not far until you come to a ‘caution’ sign and ‘the drop off’ which also has a chicken run if you’re not feeling too confident. There’s a little stream to pass through and a lot’s of ups and downs, before you come to the ‘jelly legs’ climb. Once you’ve made it to the top you get to my favourite section the ‘roller coaster’. It’s a lovely, fast, flowy downhill ride with a few rocky sections to keep you on your toes. Or off them in my case. I got a bit excited and stacked it but luckily everything came out in working order.

Once you get to the bottom again you head into the ‘grave yard’, this is the most beautiful section of the ride, it’s a sub tropical rainforest and a stark comparison to the gum trees and open scrub on the top sections of the ride. Overall the ride is not too technical, it has nice switchbacks, a couple of steep drops that get the heart fluttering and a few log piles but good for both beginners and the more experienced rider. I just love being in nature and surrounded by so many trees. It’s awesome.
