After the Bike show Keith, Andy, Candice, and I went to the RVA Trick Jam put on my Richmond Fixed and Trick Track. It had a fairly slow start, and maybe a fight, but it ended up being really awesome! All photos by Keith Gallagher, you can find more here.

Filming Myself in the Snow from Quarter Productions on Vimeo.
It snowed like crazy and I took the opportunity to go out for an hour or so and film myself trying some tricks. Shot and edited in 3 hours. Nothing special, just looks pretty. Riding bmx in the snow is damn near impossible!

Turning Tricks - 20 - Nashville2009 from KrEEEstowfUr on Vimeo.
My Name is Chris Layda and this is my video series documenting my progress as a freestyle fixed gear rider.
Well… This footage is about 3 weeks old, and I have been wanting to put it out for ages. So here it is. I hope you like it.
All I can say about this video is that I had a GREAT time riding these spots and working on these tricks. Nashville is such a fun place to ride. Lots of room for creativity. I will definitely bring my bike and camera when I return. I feel like I didn’t even scratch the surface of what can be done there.
Now Its time to start putting in some work for 2010.
Another great Turning Tricks video from Chris!

One of my top youtube searches of 2009 was for parkour. You know, those guys, and sometime girls, who run around cities, scaling walls, hopping from rooftop to rooftop, and swinging off poles? Sure you do, those who are really good at it make it into Hollywood movies as stunt artists, and we also saw some really hunky parkour guys touring with Madonna on her Confessions tour in 2006.
Well, today I discovered the amazing amalgamation of two incredible urban activities: parkour and biking. The guy in the video, Danny MacAskill, has wicked skills and no fear.

Aimed at capturing the lifestyle of female riders in the testosterone-ridden world of mountain biking, the makers of a new film, Awesome Land: Women of Dirt, hope to shed light on what drives these women athletes.
“The inspiration for Women Of Dirt starts first with the women who make up an important part of our sport and yet get overlooked,” said film producer Mark Brent. “We felt that our lifestyle gets overlooked, and that the women in our sport get overlooked. By focusing on two elements that we don’t see in DVDs, we are telling a story that hasn’t been told.”

I had a great Bike Weekend at Bike Park Livigno. It was my first time there and I do really like this Park. It’s full of flow and jumps. They have this Swatch Bike Park – Big AIR Bag. That was my first time I ever jumped on that Bag. It’s really easy, but I have to confess that I was really scared – I almost didn’t do it… On Sunday, it was a little bit wet and I couldn’t get the curve after a woody North Shore, so I just drove strait a head between two Trees, fell front flip over my Bike and my really hard but stylish saddle cut my leg off (I guess it’s time for a new saddle)…

My Hold Fast Straps arrived in the mail last week and I am in love with them. I left work early to stop by two by four on South Street in Philadelphia to pick up some Animal BMX pedals. The guys at the shop were gracious enough to let me borrow their pedal wrench to swap out my old cages. When I say borrow I mean … they did all of the work for me. Thanks two by four!

I can’t see myself going back to cages and straps any time soon. They really did their research and testing and made a great product. I highly recommend these. The best part is I can wear any shoes with them. Shoes that have a slim sole (flats) and sneakers with a little thicker sole are fine because I can adjust the straps in a matter of seconds. One note: make sure you tighten the fastening buckles down.
